Wine or not?

I've heard on two separate occasions now preachers expounding the Word and insisting that Jesus never drank alcoholic beverages. they insisted that He drank "fruit of the vine", or grape juice, as opposed to the fermented concoction that comes from grapes. What is everyone's opinions on their translation of the Word? Are there two types of wine represented in the Bible?

Through my studies I have come to the conclusion that Jesus did not drink fermented wine... even when he turned water into wine I do not believe it was fermented. But to set another point... nowhere in the Bible does it teach that drinking a class of wines is a sin.. hold on let me explain now...It is our motive in behind drinking.. do we drink to get drunk? This is one question... Let me give you a little story.. it is true though and it happened to me. I was at a 4th of July party that was thrown by some of my inlaws... okay for the most part it was decent and not roudy.... she has a pretty good family... but her cousin was getting married to this man and the mans brother was to marry them. He was a priest.. So we were out on this huge porch when suddenly this priest pulled out a 5th of Jack Daniels.. .. Well he began to take a shot.. then another.. and another to finally in about a 4 hour period of time it was empty.. so he drank the whole thing.. and needless to say he was drunk... actually so drunk that he could barley walk and speak... then the next day he married the couple [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif[/img]

I thought wine, by definition, is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented fruit juice. How can it be any other thing. If the Bible said fruit juice, then it would be fruit juice instead of wine. You see, this is what confuses me about biblical interpretation. Wine really isn't wine, it's fruit juice and I don't think people "back in the day" mentioned homosexuality, by word, but it is still condemned as a sin. How are we supposed to know what is literal and what is inferred?

Fermentation would have been a way to preserve the fruit of the vine for future consumption.

I've researched this quite a bit, and the only conclusion I can make is that wine is wine. If they had meant fruit juice, it would have been spelled out as fruit juice. Even the modern translations carry over the "wine" interpretation. In what scripture I can find that says "not" as far as drinking wine or strong drink goes, all commentaries I have read say "not to excess". The priests were warned not to drink too much so their temple duties would not be affected, for example. I assume that the fruit they had is like ours, in that it is seasonal, so fermentation would have been a necessity , especially since they had such poor water, both in quantity and quality.
I disagree with Pac-man in that I do believe Jesus drank wine, but I also agree with him in that I think the sin comes from the intent of the heart when it is consumed.

It says not to be drunk with wine.

Youare right about the definition of wine.... a lot of believers say that it means just grape juice.... which by studying the Bible you wil see that it is not referenced anywhere to mean grape juice.I do not see in the Bible where the word "homosexual is used" but read these scriptures (Romans 1:26 is a reference to it)

YOu are right.. they had no fridge... so it naturally tooks its course.
